Congratulations to Kate Burkel!!!
Kate's digital photograph was selected by Senator Kupec, District 4 to be on display at the Minnesota State Building.
Kate was only allowed to submit one photograph to the My District, My Minnesota contest that she felt represented the Hawley area, state of Minnesota, and District 4.
Her photograph will be on display at the Minnesota Senate Building on the 2nd or 3rd floor.
The 21st Annual School Spirit Exhibition will take place at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, ND on March 1 - March 31 with an in-person celebration (free to the public) taking place on Sunday, March 12 - time is yet to be determined.

Congratulations! With rigorous review, the Audition Panel selected Lexie Mathias to receive a LRAC Arts Mentorship Program Scholarship for the summer of 2023. What a fabulous opportunity for Lexie.
Friday, January 27 the Hawley visual arts department participated in the 9th annual Tri-State MSUM Art-A-Fair. This art competition features art from 30 schools around the tri-state area. Each school is able to submit eight pieces, in eight media categories. The following students had art pieces on display January 10 – January 27:

Congratulations to Elizabeth Marzahl! Elizabeth’s print, Moving On, received a merit in the printmaking category.
Tyler Hogenson’s sculpture, Carrying the Ocean, received Best in Category in the sculpture category.
Congratulations to Jackson Gunkelman. His colored pencil illustration was the design winner from the Art 8, Quarter 2 class.
The Hawley art department will be participating in the Concordia College high school juried show again this year. The exhibition will be on display Tuesday, December 6 – Tuesday, January 17 at the Cyrus M. Running Gallery at Concordia College. The closing reception and awards showcase will take place on January 17 (5:00 – 6:30). All are welcome to view the forty-four pieces on display from area high school students.
The Hawley high school art students have eighteen pieces on display.

Skate Board Print
Dezirae’s skateboard design won the 8th grade, quarter one skateboard design contest. She created this original design using colored pencils. Special thanks to Gold Mine Custom Fabrications. They created the wrap using Dezirae’s design and attached the final image to the skateboard deck.
